Safety for our employees and social commitment
The safety and well-being of our employees is of crucial importance to us. A safe workplace protects our employees, promotes their productivity and satisfaction and ultimately contributes to the long-term success of our company.
As a subsidiary of Aptiv and HellermannTyton, we adhere to the Aptiv Code of Ethics and use the Aptiv Drive Line to report unethical behavior.
Diverse energy management
Our focus is on the integration of renewable energies, efficiency measures and other technical solutions to ensure a reliable, cost-efficient and environmentally friendly energy supply. We only use green electricity.
Recycling and reuse
Our resource-saving local production aims to design our products in such a way that they can be recycled or reused at the end of their life cycle.
Excess material from production is recycled as regrind or unmixed waste for the manufacture of other plastic products.
All surplus material is suitably reused by us or by third parties for their products.
Where possible, we reuse wooden drums and packaging material.
Durable products
Our products have a service life of at least 50 years: that"s sustainable!
This avoids additional construction work over several generations and reduces the need for valuable resources.
Resource-conserving local production
Our resource-conserving production aims to use resources such as water, energy and materials efficiently and minimize waste.
Local production at the Niederwinkling site enables us to be close to our customers and keep transportation distances short.
Qualified selection and purchase of materials
Our products are largely based on polyethylene (HDPE). This material is considered harmless and food-safe.
Based on our strategy, which takes into account the applicable environmental and social standards, we only select suppliers who comply with these requirements.
Sustainability is an integral part of our mission statement and we feel responsible for bringing a positive change towards a better future for us all. We have already achieved significant success in this area in recent years:
Water treatment
Water treatment was optimized by, among other things, converting to free coolers with winter relief. The use of the cool ambient temperature also significantly reduced the electricity requirement.
The implementation of a modern, effective system and the removal of outdated cooling towers made a significant contribution to improving water treatment.
In addition, performance programs were optimized. Despite a significant increase in production volume and therefore an increase in the amount of material to be cooled, the modernization of the cooling system did not increase resource requirements.
Electricity consumption
In 2014, gabocom set itself the goal of reducing electricity consumption per kg of material produced by 3% by 2020:
A simple yet efficient example of reducing electricity consumption is the switch to LED lighting. This was additionally supported in many areas of the company by an automatic on/off control system. Furthermore, the maximum use of daylight is pleasant and beneficial for both our employees and our natural environment.
Significant energy savings were achieved by reducing the amount of compressed air required for production, replacing a hall compressor and optimizing the entire compressed air network, including regular leak detection. Replacing compressed air equipment with energy-saving blowers also contributed to this.
A further reduction in energy requirements and at the same time an increase in efficiency was achieved by insulating the spraying connection. Regular inspections and maintenance of insulation contribute significantly to reducing electricity consumption.
Thanks to these and many other measures, as well as the great commitment of the employees, it was possible to achieve the target set in 2015, i.e. after just one year. By 2020, gabocom's electricity consumption per kg of material produced had been reduced by over 14%.
We also only use electricity from renewable sources.
Packaging material used
We only use cardboard packaging made from 100% recycled material in order to conserve resources, and a change in the packaging method for palletized goods has significantly reduced the need for PE film, saving around 4.5 tonnes of film per year.
Back in 2014, gabocom was certified as using an efficient energy management system in accordance with DIN EN ISO 50001.
The company's strong commitment to sustainability was further certified in 2015 with the environmental management system certificate in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14001. Environmental protection is firmly anchored in gabocom's corporate mission statement.
The recurring performance of the required audits and continuous process optimization during ongoing operations are a matter of course for gabocom. New internal environmental and energy targets are set annually.
